Good Morning all.  Just a quick question,  I am currently on the exension of stay for visiting family(60 days),  the extension date has now expired,  so now on the amnesty.  Can I apply for the 1 year Marriage visa  whilst on the amnesty with the 40,000 thb monthly income as proof (salary paid from China) or is it too late and will need to wait for borders to re-open to get the non-o visa ?

IF the answer to that question is no, then nope, you're done, you can't get a 90 day non-O visa issued inside the country from an immigration office once you go on amnesty. You would have needed to have "real" days left on your stamp to apply :(

do you know the reason why someone cannot apply for different types of visas inside of “x” nation and it needs to be at a consulate or embassy elsewhere.... especially in these weird times we are in? Wouldn’t you think that immigration offices would be capable of doing it?

Thai consulates in other countries are NOT run by thai immigrations :O They are run by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office and they let the consulates have a lot of freedom as far a who they will sell what visas to and with what documentation.

Inside the country the immigration offices are part of the Royal Thai Police and they are closer to having a sort of standard as far as the requirements etc for issuing visas and/or extensions

Although with that being said there are over 70 immigration offices inside the country and they can do things pretty differently too.. :(

thanks. The whole concept is so weird if you really think about it for those that are already in country and maybe want to change visas. I bet many people would even be willing to pay more to be able to do it in country if that meant they didn’t have to leave. I know I would as I’m in that situation right now and just waiting to hear what will happen after July 31.

I wasn’t allowed to change mine from purpose of marriage to purpose of teaching. Their reason was because on the expired visa it says following thai wife. If it didn’t say that they would’ve allowed it. So weird

no it doesn’t. I have a WP for teaching that is valid another two years. I’ve had a non-o ME based on spouse for years and just always chose to get that instead of the Non-b. I can’t do the extension based on marriage due to finances. I want to switch to the B now because of this situation as the non-o ME is proving to be not strong in times such as this. I actually was supposed to fly out and get one in March but air Asia cancelled my flights and then the word shut down so I couldn’t any longer. Just bad timing and now I’m in a tough spot and waiting for see what will happen.
