I need expert advice please: my wife and I are going to get a retirement visa. I've deposited the required sum in the bank. Now I have to wait two months (May 16th).
We are on a 30 day extension that expires April 15th. I need to go to KL to close out a bank account there, long story but my card stopped working and my money is tied up. No access to the website either.
Would I be able to fly to KL and apply for a 60 day visa? So I can stay longer and avoid more border hops, or is it not worth it? Has anyone done this in KL and how many nights would I have to stay there? TIA

TLDR : Answer Summary
The poster is seeking advice on traveling to Kuala Lumpur to close a bank account while managing visa situations, specifically regarding applying for a 60-day visa. They have deposited the required funds for a retirement visa but are currently on an extension set to expire soon. Several commenters clarify that the seasoning of funds may not be necessary for the initial Non-O visa application and suggest contacting local immigration for accurate requirements. They also confirm that it's possible to obtain a 60-day tourist visa while in KL.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.
Have you checked with the immigration office you are using that they require two months seasoning of your funds , because I here some offices don't and maybe it would change your plans.
The agent is the one who told me that I needed to season the money in the bank for 2 months before getting a Non O, people on this thread are saying I don't need to wait. So I don't know what to believe but I don't trust Visa agents in general.
All I know is that I was told by an immigration officer in Chaing Rai that seasoning before applying wasn't necessary. As it turned out I didn't do my visa in chiang rai and when I did my application it wasn't clear if it was needed or not .
I will be doing two months before and three months after for the coming extension, which kind of makes more sense to me.

Why would there be any hurry to close your bank account in KL? You could do that after you get your visa extension completed
like I said in the post my extension is running out so I have to do a border hop and I'd rather kill two birds with one stone and take care of the bank account while I'm doing a border hop. I also want to get a 60-day entry visa rather than the shorter VOA.

You can fly to KL, sort out your banking and get a 60 day tourist visa from the RTE in KL while you are there. Need to make an appt. No walk ins.
Hey Todd, I'm on the reservation website and it it mentions visa, legalization 14 days in advance. It might be worded wrong but do I need any advanced days to do a 60-day visa or can they just do it on the spot?
Where in Thailand are you? There's only a couple of offices that require seasoned money for the initial 90 day Non-O visa. Have you spoken to your local immigration office regarding their requirements?
depends how near but I suspect you should go to the main immigration office at chaeng wattana. If you're in Samut Prakan you should go to the office there. I don't think either of these needs to see seasoned money.
If you're applying for the initial Non Imm O visa, there's no need to season the money for 2 months. Seasoning is only required for subsequent yearly extentions of stay.

Don't really understand what you're asking. Money needs to be in an account for 60 days oei6to applying for a 1 year extension. If you're going from a tourist visa to a Non-O, money just has to be in an account the day you apply.
I wasn't able to deposit the money when I first arrived. I thought I could open up a bank account quickly on a tourist visa and that was not the case in Phuket. After going to three banks and failing, I had to hire a visa agent. Etc.. the money wasn't deposited until March 16th
that's not the point I'm making. You said you need a tourist visa to prevent you from doing additional border hops. That's not true. A single border hop now gives you more than enough time without getting a tourist visa.
