I am a Canadian in Vietnam and I want to apply for a 60 day tourist visa at the consulate in HCMC. Has anyone done something like this recently? The website says: "Nationals of Certain Countries ([Click]([members only])) are required to apply for a visa ONLY at Thai Embassy or Consulate-General in their home/residence country." and Canada does not seem valid.

The thing is the ED visa section has the same condition and I know it is possible to apply for that one in Vietnam since I did it a few years back.  Also, some visa specialists I am talking to in Thailand are telling me it is possible.

So I'm not sure if it is possible.  Does anyone have any experience? (not necessarily from Canada)

HCMC is one of the go to embassies to visit for those doing border hops for new visas. I’ve not see any posts saying that it is no longer post covid. There are indeed some nationals that can only get visas from their home country but my guess is that’s sort of African nations, China and the like. Should be no issue with a Canadian passport. However I’m only going by posts I see here. I have no experience with that embassy pre or post covid.

I read it that nationals from those countries may only apply in HCMC if they have legal residence in Vietnam. Other countries are not beholden to that requirement

If you are Canadian just do eVisa with the corresponding Thai consulate in Canada. More hassle free.

thanks, I looked at that website at first, but under the "Am I eligible to apply online?", I select "Document Holder: Canada" and "Permanent Residency/Current Location: Vietnam" and it says I have to go to the consulate/embassy to apply.

I've been staying in Vietnam for over 6mo so I'm not sure if it will cause any problems down the line?

I see. In theory you may in fact have to make use of the consulate in Vietnam then. In reality, I would assume the eVisa in Canada would also go through if you can provide the required uploads.
