I'm a Brit in Hoi An (central Vietnam) waiting for my 2nd jab.  I hope to get to Thailand about Xmas-time on 60-day tourist visa.  2 questions:

1. Can I get an E-visa?  The wording (see screenshot) isn't clear to me.  I came to VN on a tourist visa in 2/20 & have gotten extensions since then.  Is that a "residence visa"?  My "permanent residency" is UK but not been back since 11/19.

1. The tourist visa requirements are noticably different on the websites of the Thai Embassy in Hanoi & the Thai Consulate in HCMC (the latter being more demanding).  Would they really enforce different rules or is one of them likely to be incorrect?

You can try saying you're in UK and apply using the online system which no longer requires you to mail in your passport. They may ask for some things that could raise red flags though, like a flight to Thailand from UK, or the last stamps in your passport which would show you in Vietnam and never leaving. But in theory it's possible and once you got your visa by email, it doesn't matter where you fly in from.

Sounds too risky. I'm 99% sure I'll go through Hanoi Embassy (can't make a solid plan until I've had 2nd jab). Thanks for suggestion though.

the new evisas are so new we don't really have any data points on if it's possible, so you'd be a test subject. Probably better to go the safe route

At this time the thai consulates in Vietnam are NOT participating in the evisa system (not even if you hold a vietnamese passport)

For thai visas in vietnam you go to the consulates and apply

They are completely different thai consulates and run under two sets of requirements. Even before the covid shit show they ran like that 😮

Apply at what ever one you want to.

You filled out the form correctly

You GO to the thai consulate in HCMC or Hanoi and apply for the tourist visa

The ambiguity was that I could have entered UK as my "Permanent Residency / Current Location" are 2 different things. Also wasn't sure if a Tourist Visa is considered a "residence visa" as I'm presumably still considered a visitor not a resident. Anyway, thanks for your clarifications. The Vietnam Visa Advice fb group is a shitshow of rumour/trolls/scammers & I'm frankly amazed to see how well your group is run. Thanks again.
