I contacted them yesterday and they said I should have it back by July 20th. The process for the work permit has already been processed and I am just waiting on picking it up. I did tell my employer already but she insisted on me using photocopies to apply. Not sure If I will actually be able to pick the permit up or not.

Yes. You can work and earn an income on a marriage visa. Also you have many more options available such as credit cards, finance etc. Retirement visa you cannot do any of that.
