Better try to call them, they're very helpful - I applied mine via Athens Embassy using my Maltese resident card last December - holding a spanish passport..

Can my mother be my sponsor for a DTV visa at the Madrid embassy, and what are the specific requirements?

I called madrid embassy about the requirements of applying DTV visa before ( I'm Spanish passport holder ) and they have a lot of requirements including the 6 months bank statement accumulating the 500k thb (in EU currency) and also payslips, etc. I was living and working in Malta that time so I decided to apply in Athens instead via E-visa 🙏
