TLDR : Answer Summary
There are rumors about impending changes to the visa exemption policy for UK visitors to Thailand, potentially extending the stay from 30 to 60 days starting June 1, 2024. However, there is currently no official confirmation, and discussions indicate that while the proposal exists, it may not be enacted immediately. Community members recommend waiting for official updates and advise on tickets only if they are a good deal. Multiple sources suggest variations in implementation dates, with some indicating changes could take effect in late June or July.
Gov.uk has just updated its website to reflect the proposed change to 60 days visa exempt.

Isnt visa free the same as visa exempt ? I'm not sure

If we get a 60 day visa exempt can we still get a 30 day extension to bring it up to 90 days or do I still need to get a 60 day tourist visa and extend at immigration, thanks.
that's a good question. I wish to add another good question: Will we be able to do a border run before the 60 days stay permit expires, and receive another 60 days visa-exempt entry stamp? This would bring the total to 120 days
UK will be 60 days from June 1st. Thai government desperate for money.

Hi all quick update, I got back on Saturday June 1st and got 30 days, I did question it and was lead off to an area with several immigration staff and they said yes it's been announced but it's not law yet, and now today June 2nd I see a story saying it will happen late June or early July, so will have to wait I guess....

Just book; does it really matter if you get an additional 30 days for free if it changes to 60 days? Even if it doesn't change and everything stays the same then you just do a tourist visa. You're acting like the world is about to change in some meaningful way; it's not. It's just a trip to Thailand, and you'll have plenty visa options.

We really have to wait until we see information published in the Royal Gazette and not speculate.

The UK is included as it is one of the original 57 on the visa waiver list. Too many know-it-alls around here who actually know nothing and would be better staying quiet unless they actually have something knowledgable worth contributing.
If you're only planning on a 60-90 days trip, go ahead and book it if there's a bargain to be had. Worst case scenario is you'll need to apply for an evisa, which is very straightforward.

It's not a rumor in the sense that the plan is real, and is being considered. But it's not final yet.

Wait until Friday.

We’ll know for sure in two days, if/when any changes are published and gazetted. Ambitious announcements outnumber official changes by 10:1, so be prepared.

yes 60 day stamp now for visa exempt tourists, great news
why do you think that the UK isn’t included? The UK was part of the original visa free countries and is part of the 53 mentioned surely. Those 53 should go from thirty days ( Which the UK currently enjoys) to sixty days. At least that’s my interpretation.
he's come to his incorrect conclusion because the article uses the incorrect "visa free" words, as in free of the need for a visa, instead of Visa Exempt. So he's assumed it's something different, that excludes UK, which it isn't.
it doesn't say excluding UK. It says the current number of countries entitled to visa free entry will increase. And the 30 days will be increased to 60.
if they change all visa exempt to 60 days then the UK would be included. Anyone saying anything is or isn't included is incorrect because nothing is official.

Nothing official yet. The cabinet approved a list of items but that doesn't make it law yet. No one knows any details and there are rumors that it's not starting until September, despite the press release saying June. But there's no way they can get everything they mentioned finished in 3 days from the date of announcement. You'll just need to keep an eye on the news.
