Hi Guys

I just returned to UK and my UK passport has another 18 months left until expiry date.

I just renewed my "1 year extension to stay in Thailand " the week before I left do that is stamped in my passport along with my re-entry permit.

So I am thinking of applying for a new 10 years passport but before I do i want to know if I will have any problems re-entering Thailand with the new passport as the old passport will have the stamps ?

I'm not a usual case, time is of the essence. I need to back in thailand before ,2nd December to renew visa. Current passport doesn't have a full year validity

I'm sure as long as you have both with you and Thai pass is accepted. Upon arrival the confusion would be understood? Maybe I'm too naive haha

At moment just looking at the process times for a new passport, uk gov are advising 10weeks but l belive that 4 weeks is nearer the mark for a standard renewal

I have read on others that you don't actually have to show re entry or visa on Thai pass application.

I was thinking, use new passport and then show visa and re entry at immigration.

I guess it depends on when you receive your new passport and when you apply for Thai pass.

Ask UKPA for the letter requesting Thai immigration transfer your stamps to the new passport.

unless I'm mistaken you ONLY get that letter (asking the stamps be transferred to the new passport) when you get your new passport INSIDE thailand. They don't give you that letter when you get your passport renewed in your country.

you won't have ANY issues showing up to thailand and handing the officer at passport control your old (cancelled) passport that has your still valid extension and re-entry permit in it AND your new passport.

They'll stamp you in on the new passport

Then before your next 90 day report, you can go to your immigration office where you got the extension to get the stamps transferred to the new passport

Actually the letter is only required if you get a new passport in Thailand. If you get a new passport in the UK it will be stamped when you arrive in Thailand, so won't be blank when you take it to Immigration to get your Extension transferred.

You'll need to present the old passport at BKK airport when you arrive so that the IO sees the Extension stamp and Re-entry permit. He will then refer to this when he stamps your new passport. Take both passports when you go to your Immigration Office to get the Extension transferred. I've done it before, and it was straightforward. They don't transfer the Re-entry permit; you have to do this at a different desk (free).

The UK has for many years only been cutting the Top Right corner off of the Front & Back hard cover pages and the personal information pages. They normally leave all the other pages intact if that information helps.

Just make sure to mention you have valid extension stamps in your passport when you apply for a new passport. I'm not familiar with the UK passport renewal process, Just knowing in some countries your old passport would be punched to get voided. Some countries make holes through the entire passport, some make the hole only on ID pages. But the pages of your valid stamp should not be punched.

Bring both passports to re-enter Thailand, then go to the immigration office to move valid stamps. You cannot move a visa, but you should move stamps to your new passport.
