Hi.... I recently had my non-O retirement visa approved at Prachuap Kirikhan.... application by self, no agent involved. I asked the immi officer for a multiple entry stamp, but he said best to wait until after the first 90 days and to buy the multiple entry permit when I apply for the 12 month extension. During this initial 3 month period I must exit Thailand twice which means buying two reentry permits. I wonder if I did indeed persue a multiple entry permit now if it would also cover the following 12 month extended period? Advice appreciated ๐

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user recently received a NON-O retirement visa and is seeking clarity on whether purchasing a multiple entry permit now would also cover their subsequent 12-month visa extension period. Commenters explained that a re-entry permit is valid only for the duration of the visa stamp, so a multiple entry permit bought now would only apply to the initial 90-day period. It was suggested to purchase two single-entry re-entry permits for the necessary exits instead.

In your specific case since any re-entry permit you purchase now will only cover the 90 days, the only reason it would make sense to purchase the multiple re-entry would be if you're running out of room in your passport. If that's not a concern then it'll be more efficient for you to purchase 2 single-entry re-entry permits before each of your trips to save 1800โฟ.

You should have told the officer that you were leaving the country 2 times during the 90 days you get the visa for.. He couldn't understand why you wanted a re-entry permit for just the 90 days
Nope, a re-entry permit is only valid for the duration of the stamp you're on,
SO buying a multiple re-entry permit is only gonna be good for the 90 day stamp you're on, although it will let you exit/re-enter the two times you need.

Perfectly understood Tod. Thank you for your clear answer.
I did actually tell the IO that I'd be leaving Thailand once during these 1st 90 days and he said to use a reentry permit.... since then new circumstances dictate that I must leave a 2nd time (unpredicted family stuff).
So I will purchase reentry permits for the time beingโฆ.. then buy the multi when I get the 12 month extension.
Cheers and gratitude for sharing your knowledge!

can't see you spending 3800baht for a multiple re-entry permit when singles are 1000baht each (unless you're trying to save passport pages)
