Why not just blanket ban it. If its at the descretion of admins, aren't we starting down the same path the other group went, "some ads good, some ads bad"? There's plenty of places to find adverts. A simple "no ads" takes away all the work.

Ok, so advertising done in response to a request is ok, but not main posts. I dont mind either way. I'm just a memeber. Just seems easier to have a simple rule than needing to evaluate each post.

If a service or product provider responds to someones request , its still advertising. Because all members can see it and become aware of it. Recommendations are also the best type of advertising because no one recommends shit quality..

I think we missed each other. If someone is responding to a request for recommendations that doesn't strike me as a type of advert - thats a recommendation.

My concern was just a "who watches the watchmen" scenario. It's simpler to bad all adverts, than to wonder whether your value judgement in terms of what is a good advert is similar to mine. If it's just banned I know to go look for adverts elsewhere if I want them.

I don't have a horse in the race, just seems unnecessary.

. Theres a big difference between good ads and bad ads. At the moment, if a member asks about a particular product or service and another member can provide or recommend it, thats fine. We arent interested in unrelated junk like YouTube live links to someones gfs friend selling trinkets or condo lease takeovers or "buy my second hand cutlery because im leaving" , etc.

Youve been a member for one day. There hasnt been an ad since the group started.

. Couple of reasons.

Facebook is full of groups that get flooded with ads and snake oil sellers.

Group isnt big enough yet.

If its a local business belonging to a member we will ok it.

Not interested in members purely here to sell shit or post links to their sister in laws youtube handbag sales.

Example : had a guy join. 3 minutes later hes trying to sell exclusive Indian mobile phone numbers in the group...
