Hi moderators I have a question from my FB-less friend. Which type of Visa is best for him to apply for. He is married to a Thai woman, has 400,000 but receives a lower pension than the stated requirement. Is the Thai-wife the best solution? Thank you in advance for your for your coming responses.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The best visa option for your friend, who is married to a Thai woman and has a lower pension, would depend on several factors. If he is over 50, he might consider applying for a retirement visa (Non-O visa) with a lower monthly income requirement, or he can apply for a Non-O visa based on marriage by meeting the financial requirements, specifically having 400,000 THB saved in a Thai bank account for at least 2 months. His pension amount may not be relevant if he meets the other criteria.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.

Thank you all for the information.

If over 50 and can stretch to 800k, I recommend getting a Retirement 90 day O visa and extending it in Thailand. A lot less onerous hassle to extend annually too.

400k is for a spouse extension, not a visa. Visa financial requirements vary on which country you apply in. Some have none, some have a min amount in bank.

First he needs the Non Imm O visa based on marriage and then with the 400,000bt seasoned in a Thai bank for 2 months he can apply for a 1 year extention of stay. His low pension is irrelevant.

If he is over 50 he can do a one year retirement visa and only have to have 2,500 US dollars in the bank each month

He either needs 400k in a Thai bank OR meet the income requirement, not both for a Non-O based on marriage.
