What should I expect during my daughter's US Embassy appointment for her passport renewal given her expiring ed visa?

Hi All,

My daughter received an emergency passport from US Embassy. This document is good for one year. Soon her ed visa will expire (at the end of January). 

We mailed off everything for her to get a regular 10 year passport as instructed on the US Embassy Bangkok website. We then received an email from them to come to their office with no other information. 

We called them because the date of of the appointment is about 2 weeks prior to the expiration of her ed visa. We asked if they will be mailing the temp passport back to us. They said they will have it there when we come for the appointment.

My questions are:

1. How long is this appointment?

1. Will she receive the temp passport during this visit or the 10 year passport?

With only 2 weeks remaining on the ed visa and the state of the ed visa situation at the moment, should she plan to fly out to USA at this time?

Any insight would help!

From their response, and what you originally wrote, I will assume your daughter is under 18 years old. This appointment is simply to visually verify that the person is your daughter, given that for some not mentioned reason she also needed an emergency passport. This is a normal procedure, and takes about ten minutes, then she should get her new passport, with a letter, you take these to immigration to get her visa stamp put in the new passport. This will take a little longer at immigration because you don't have her old passport. If you still have her old passport number that helps.

My experience with the US embassy, appointment or no, you should plan at least 2 hours.

You will want to contact the Embassy to ask which document they have, the temporary or long term passport.
