TLDR : Answer Summary
When waiting for your DTV visa approval, it's generally advised to stay in the country where you applied for the visa. Traveling to Thailand during this period can lead to complications such as visa rejection without a refund or additional documentation requests upon entry. While some suggest entering Thailand on a tourist visa and then doing a border run once the DTV is approved, the safest route appears to be remaining where you are until the visa process is complete.
People here just like to bang their heads against the wall to see if it really hurt ..

What Embassy did you apply at? Some state on the site that you must remain in country until the DTV is issued. Check to see if the one you applied at shows this. Some people had success, others were called in for an interview, some were questioned at immigration when they noticed the stamps and date visa was issued. Impossible to say if this will work for you or not.

You have to apply in advance and plan to stay in the same county a couple of weeks, but if they keep delaying and asking for more and more documents online, it's not your problem. Changing flights and accommodation plans can be expensive so I would just arrive in Thailand, get a tourist stamp, then when the DTV is approved online, leave and re enter

Stay in the country where you will be applying for the DTV visa until it's either approved or denied.

I'd enter on a 60day tourist visa and do a border run after you have received the DTV

And if you are asked to submit ADDED documents or even a personal interview with the Thai Embassy or Consulate, then what?
My DTV is an evisa and I was asked to upload everything online. I doubt they would know where you upload it from. As of Jan 1, 2025 all Thai visas are evisas.
I'll say it once again... For those who are going to apply, stay in the country where they are applying for the DTV visa. We are seeing more requests for ADDED documents as well as an interview in person with the Thai Embassy or Consulate in the county where the application is made.

Tell immigration at the airport that you couldn't wait for the DTV and slip a 1000 baht note with your passport, wink at them and ask if there's anyway they can stamp you in for 6 months.😉
understood. BUT we do have newbies here entering Thailand for their first time.

As I know you need to apply before you come (you can’t apply if you’re already in Thailand)… and if you come before they approve it, you just go to one trip outside Thailand and come back and them you should have it.
AS I KNOW, I AM NOT SAYING THAT IS 100% RIGHT.
Probably the best if you check on Thai embassy website, and with your country embassy in Thailand.

How would you travel if the embassy has your passport?
I have my house and office in Thailand, my wise account has a Thai address, I also pay taxes in Thailand and I am married with a Thai, so.. would be an issue ?

Can not work in Thailand for Thai customers on DTV.
and thats bad planning .. You act like you are running them, instead of they running you...

Just because you can apply online doesn't mean the rules don't apply. Your application is still tied to the country you are in when you apply. The best way to think of it is as if you had walked into the consulate in person to apply, you couldn't go anywhere previously as they held on to your passport. They don't now physically do that but you should treat it as if they did.

Has anyone been rejected leaving and coming back to activate their visa?

What about if our flight date is soon and
still have checking status ?

Unbelievably, after getting support from you here, I received a visa e-mail. Thank you very much to everyone.
it's been 5 days only..lol! Normally others get it in 3 to 4 days..I still have till 30th to throw in the towel.lol! Then I guess I will be off to manila to wait Bec I won't be allowed to Thailand anymore due to our.multiple 90 days stay..keep positive I know things are slow in turkey. We lived there for a year then came back to Thailand..
if we get lucky and you happen to be in Chiangmai where we live let me know..would love to meet you. We always stop in turkiye on our way back to Canada or Jordan..
if the embassy knows your flight date they will ask you to show them a ticket to Thailand at a later date. If you can't provide that your application will be refused
Starting January 1, 2025, it should be possible to apply for visas from anywhere in the world. If your visa is pending approval next year, you could simply do a quick border run to activate your DTV. Keep us updated, it will be interesting to know.
The article could be interpreted as stating that eVisas will become policy starting January 1, 2025. However, the word ‘anywhere’ makes things somewhat intriguing. I’d probably agree with you, but the possibility still exists.
all that article meant was the few consulates around the world that weren't on the eVisa website will now ONLY be on it <- meaning no walk up in person applications like we had here in S/E Asia
And it's not a stretch at all to be anywhere in the world because right now the system defaults to the consulate covered by the choice you make ... (and most likely will do that once the other consulates come online)
Example;
When you stay you're in the Bahama Islands it picks the thai consulate in Ottawa Canada for you to apply for the eVisa thru
You have a chance they ask for additional / updated documents including full passport copy, and if you lie to them they will find out. Smartest decision is to stay in country where you applied waiting for your visa to be ready. That’s how it was before evisa, the fact you hold your passport makes you feel it’s ok, but it’s very gray area to go to Thailand while waiting for their decision.
nope, other than the part I posted that says you have to be in the country when you apply
I'm just going by reports that more and more consulates are sending "request for additional documents" 3 or 4 days after you applied and asking for copies of all the passport pages (blank ones too) to see IF you bailed and went back to thailand.
Not saying you can't do it, just saying IF you do and get caught out you can get the visa rejected.
what IF after you flew to thailand the embassy had requested you send copies of EVERY page of your passport (including blank pages) like we are seeing more and more consulates request 4 or 5 days after the application was submitted
They do this to see IF you went back to thailand, and if you did they deny the visa
applicant can be asked to upload further documents to show they are still in that country such as copies of ALL pages of passport at any stage in the application.
