What should I do if I left Thailand without canceling my Non-ED visa?

Hi, I would like to ask about not canceling my Thai visa.

I finished my study in Dec 2023. After that, I went for a visa of research assistance (Non-ED), which was expired in Nov 2024. However, I left Thailand in June 2024 without canceling or buying re-entry.

I read that not canceling my visa is violating Thai regulations. What should I do now to make sure that I did not committed to crime in Thailand? I heard that not canceling visa will be seen as overstay, which can be fined or banned from the country.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about violating Thai visa regulations after leaving Thailand without canceling their Non-ED visa following the completion of their studies. The comments provide clarification on the difference between a visa and an extension of stay, highlight the potential penalties for failing to cancel, and suggest that they could face fines or complications when applying for future visas if they do not address the issue. One user shared a similar experience but was reassured by their school about the cancellation process.

I also didn’t realise I had to cancel my extension of stay and left before the expiry date but my school said I can cancel when I come back and that there shouldn’t be any issues since I wasn’t aware I had to do it and they have had similar cases with other students and I also left before the extension of stay expired.

Thank you so much. What a relief. I will cancel it when I have a chance to come back to Thailand.

no worries, I also had the same worries when I found out but looks like it can be sorted out although it is always better to cancel before leaving which we can do next time now that we know

You don't cancel a visa, but you do cancel an extension of stay so what are you calling a visa? Look in your passport

then you should have cancelled it. If you come back you will need to do so

You should have gotten documents from your school/work that stated when you finished and used that to cancel before you left.

If you try to get another long term visa or extension from inside Thailand, it's possible that they will not let you do so until you cancel it. When you go to cancel, you could be charged 500 baht per day up to a maximum of 20,000 baht because you failed to cancel.

so I should go back to Thailand for stay extension cancellation? Or should I wait till next time I need a long term visa as I do not have plan to visit Thailand any time soon? And Since I left Thailand last June, it is certain that I will be charged for

B? Am I consider as a criminal when I didn't cancel my extension?

just wait until you need it. Try not doing it and they might not even notice and you'll never hear about it. If they do notice that's when they'll fine you. You don't have to worry about being arrested or anything like that

you still have to cancel an expired ed visa ?

@Did ****
a 90 day visa, no because a visa cannot be cancelled. An extension of stay based on education, yes it must be cancelled in all cases.

Thanks, I think I missed the detail that it was an extension of stay :)
