I was planning to fly out of Thailand this week before my STV expires. Just after I got my negative PCR test results for the flight I learned I was exposed to someone who is C19-positive... so I decided to delay the trip and isolate for a bit just to be safe. I couldn't live with the idea that I might get other people sick. 

The problem is that I'm now in an overstay situation for a week or two. I know it's 500 baht/day but it seems unfair to be penalized for following government recommendations and trying to do the right thing. I'm also worried I may be black listed next time I tried to enter Thailand. 

With the STV I don't qualify for the COVID extension and in any case it's expired now.

Any ideas how I might get this sorted?

Leaving Thailand ASAP is probably wise to do now.

You should have gone to the hospital and sought a medical certificate requesting a medical extension from a Thai doctor.

Then had taken that to Thai Immigration and hope that they would grant you an extension of a few weeks to insure you do not have COVID.

Now you are in OVERSTAY...

at 500 Thai baht per day.

Incubation period of COVID is up to 15 days....

Suggest you contact the hospital /Doctor and try to get a medical certificate requesting a medical extension from Thai immigration.

Good luck and be prepared to leave Thailand at the end of whatever time period for which the Thai doctor requests and Thai Immigration approves.

As Thai immigration office is CLOSED Monday and Wednesday this week suggest you go ASAP as the fine continues to increase 500 Thai baht daily.

Just to be clear, I believe it's not a good idea to go to immigration when you should be self isolating.

But in any case, can this be done at the overstay counter at BKK?

if you are leaving Thailand and you have whatever requirements your airline or destination country require (RT-PCR COVID test results etc).... Then YES you can pay your overstay fine on departing BKK.

In that case I would not recommend you mention the reason why you overstayed...

They are not going to waive the overstay fine accrued.

May cause you to be placed in detention until the incubation period of 15 days is over...
