In January, Thailand experiences generally pleasant weather, with low chances of rain and moderate temperatures, making it one of the best months for travel. After spending two days in Bangkok, which has attractions like the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and Wat Arun, visitors are recommended to consider locations such as Hua Hin, Kanchanaburi, Koh Chang, or even secluded islands. The weather is typically sunny and not overly hot, although some variations exist based on the specific region.
Oops. Thought such temp only was in the north like chang rai or so. In the seven years I liver here (20km south of Korat), I only measured 2 times 12Ā°C in the morning.
"Cold" is relative. Depending where you are, it does not go much below 15Ā°C. Sometimes in the morning it does go lower a bit. Y'r question: Islands like e.g. Koh samui etc. are nice, kanchanaburi also for some history of the building of the famous 'bridge over the river Kwai' and maybe, if you want the Thai Isan feeling a bit, first go to Khao Yai national park and then visit also the town Nakhon Ratchasima, with some area and villages around it. If you not like it, just go to another part.
Nice weather in January if you plan to stay in Bangkok for two days, recommend to visit Grand Palace and Wat Pho and also take a boat cross the Chao Pha Ya river to visit Wat Arun. Enjoy eating Thai food everywhere you go.

January is great. No rain, not too hot, but plenty of tourists.
You should check out Koh Chang and Koh Samed to the east, or Kanchanaburi and Hua Hin to the west.
