What is the process for obtaining a TM30 for an ED visa in Thailand, and what are the fines involved?

Hi,

I’m currently in Thailand on a 30 day exempt visa holding a French passport. 

I’m changing my visa for ED Visa and my school told me I need the TM30 paper to change. 

I asked the owner and he told me I need to do it by myself because he didn’t do it at the time I rented the house. He also told me that I need to pay a fine ?

My questions are is the TM30 free ? And what could be the amount of fine ? Does the owner need to pay the fine or is it me because he didn’t do it on time ?

I’m sorry if this post is not clear but I’m kinda confused myself about the whole process. 

And with the current situation does Chaeng Wattana still issue TM30 ?

I self filed a TM30 at CW Bangkok immigration with no problems following Tod Daniels advice.

Search this group for - Self file TM 30, and Tod's post is at the top.

Follow his instructions in the post.

Immigration asked to keep a copy of my lease so hand them a copy of it not the original.

I sat in front of the immigration officer for three minutes and received a TM30 without having to pay a fine.

TM30. Very short for the registration of a foreigner arriving at an address in Thailand within 24 hours.

The registration is free, but need to done in 24 hours after arriving, if to late there are fines.

The owner might willing to register and report you using this on line system, if not the owner has to supply you with documents to register in person at Immigration Office.

BTW strange to read you find a school that is willing to support you with an ED visa as all schools are closed by Government orders.

I understand, but knowing only Universities are able to transfer a visa exempt entry or tourist visa into a Non Immigrant ED visa in county, i doubt the story that a lady from an on line school can do the same. Which get confirmed with the phrase, the documents may come after Songkran.

Thank you for your reply. Do you know how much is the fine ?

And do you think I can tell the owner he has to pay it since he was suppose to register me once I moved in ?

Regarding the school they are still working from home and the lady told me she can get all the paper for me after songkran
