TLDR : Answer Summary
Foreign nationals flying domestically in Thailand primarily need a ticket and some form of legal identification. While a passport is not legally required for domestic flights, various experiences indicate that it is often requested, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic for tracking purposes. Therefore, it's advisable to carry a passport even though some travelers have successfully flown with just a legal photo ID.

I flew about a month ago, ticket and passport.

Back in May Chiangmai was requiring white foreigners to be signed for by a Thai or else be locked up but I understand that’s finished and you can travel freely now.

Even the pink ID is shit for checking in for a flight.

You don't even legally need a passport for a domestic flight, just legal photo ID, but with the Covid situation AOT is trying to track all foreigners and on my last flight from Hat Yai to BKK and back I was asked for my Passport four times.
