Visa question-- I guess the Thai embassy in the US wasn't satisfied with my criminal record clearance certificate from the countries where I have been living for the last 6 years. So they want one from the FBI (even though I have not lived here in forever). Did anyone have to do a similar background check? Did you use some sort of agency? Any recommendations? Need to expedite this as it's holding up my visa plans.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is facing challenges with the Thai embassy requiring an FBI criminal record clearance certificate for their visa application, despite living abroad for the past six years. They seek recommendations for agencies that can assist in obtaining this certificate quickly, as the requirement is delaying their visa plans.
I think if you look at the US embassy site for the country you are currently in, you will get information on how to apply for the FBI criminal background check. It should direct you to where you can get finger printed by an agency that the FBI accepts.
FBI doesn't actually do the background check, you need to go through one of their approved companies. They used to, but it would take 3-5 months. Online companies do it in hours.

We take care of them for clients regularly for visas and other cases, they have been taking longer lately but depending on your situation, we can get records a bit faster.

They often want one from your home (passport) country

Didn't read the requirements?

yeah, I did read it but it doesn't make sense to have a background check from a country where you haven't lived, nah mean? I submitted the one from the country where I have been living. But yeah.... I guess they require it. Even if it makes no sense
use Sterlingidentity.com or Fieldprint.com to set up a fingerprinting at a local scanner (ups, usps, fedex, etc).
You pay 50$ for the service, schedule a fingerprint appt, within minutes youll get your FBI check emailed to you upon printing.
I used Sterlingidentity.com twice, booked an appt to get fingerprints done under 30 days (my fastest appt was within days of payment), and the results came back within 30 min of my fingerprints both times. You need 2 forms of ID (passport and DL or state ID).
Regardless if you've lived in the states or whatever recently, as long as you are clean, the record will be clean (as long as you're a US citizen or hold some SSN, resident status).
You typically apply for a visa in the country you are in...but you never said what kind of visa ie the requirements... So I am assuming you are in the US and that is why a background check in the US is required.
I am US citizen... Did the STV in Taiwan where I am resident of... Sounded like you would be required to get background check both taiwan and US.... But in the end they did not require one at all, which was convenient.
