Is there a risk of visa refusal if the application date is too close to the intended arrival date in Thailand?

Do you know if there is a risk of refusal if the period between the application date and the intended arrival date is too short for the visa to be issued? For example if I apply on Monday and write that I plan to return to Thailand on Friday, if the visa is not ready on Friday could the application be refused?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The concern raised is whether applying for a visa with a short interval before the intended arrival date could lead to refusal. While there is a potential risk if the application date and arrival date are too close for processing, specific case reports of refusals for this reason are not widely known. Some suggestions include applying with a later arrival date to mitigate this risk or considering visa exemptions for specific nationalities like Belgian citizens.

Don’t know what visa you’re applying for, but as a Belgian citizen you can also enter on a 60 days visa exemption (if you don’t have any recent excessive travel history in and out of Thailand) and do a border bounce to activate your visa when you receive it on email later. You only have to be present at date when you apply for a e-visa.

That doesn't work in Lao where you have to go pay in person AND you have to attend an interview at the consulate 😕

Nor does it work at consulates that send you a request for additional documents 3 or 4 days after you applied asking for ALL your passport pages (blank ones too) to see if you bailed out of their country already 😮

not the best advice. They can ask for proof you are still in the country you applied from or even request you attend an interview

I agree it’s not the best advice, and it only was meant as a back up if didn’t have time to receive his visa, but he would stil be able to prove that he applied for and left from the country he applied in and was present, and I know several people have done it this way in situations like this.

I know some people have done this, but officially you have to be in the country where you are applying during the process, I prefer not to take any risks.

Do you need a visa ?

@Fath *******
they can get in to thailand visa exempt, they are going to a nearby thai consulate to apply for a Destination Thailand Visa

That's a question I think no one can answer 😕

Could the embassy reject your application because you say you're coming back to thailand before their stated processing time? Yes, they could indeed.

Have people been rejected for that reason? I do not know of any reports of that happening.

Why not just put a planned return date to thailand further out so it's not an issue on the eVisa application?

People reported Paris doing that regularly, and it hit a lot of people because they wouldn't even start processing applications for a month after they applied. But normally not an issue at most embassies.

that one in Paris has to be hands down the WORST thai consulate to process an eVisa at 🙁 I think Spain is also really long processing time too

confirming that Paris is the worst.

Okay, you are NOT gonna speed up the process by putting a fast return date to thailand. 😕 That's just not gonna work.

Vientiane has POSTED processing time of 10-15 days

BUT

people who have applied there said, once they applied online, showed up to pay in person, they were contacted quickly (sometimes that same day) to go for the interview the next day or day after

AND

a few people reported that after the interview they got the approval email very fast (same day or day after that)

Vientiane will request an interview you also must go and pay in person. Just put 14 days from your application it doesn't matter really you leave when you get your visa l stayed an extra week

@David *******
good advice (y)

their published processing time is 10 to 15 working days from the day you pay. The earliest you could pay is Monday and Wednesday is a Thai holiday. I wouldn't put any less than 10 working days excluding the day you pay

I was wondering because I think I read somewhere that the expected arrival date could have an effect on how quickly the visa is obtained but that may not be true.
Tod *********
@Laurent ***********
from what it appears, it does not have any effect at all on the visa processing😕

Other than to make sure you're applying less than 3 months before you come here

What visa are you applying for an where?
