If we retire to Thailand on the 65000bahts per month
Is this for each of us or per married couple instead of the 800,000 baths
Many thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The requirement of 65,000 baht per month for retirement in Thailand applies to each individual, not per couple. This means that if a married couple is moving, both partners must prove an income of 65,000 baht each unless qualified for a trailing spouse visa, which is currently very difficult to obtain. There are also options regarding a higher income requirement of 800,000 baht, which is per individual as well. It is strongly recommended to clarify visa options and requirements with legal advice before leaving the UK to avoid complications.

If you want to go down the Non-OA 12 month route (which requires insurance, police check, etc) you can show your income in the UK.
If you want to go down the Non-O route you can get a 90 day visa in the UK but would then need to put 800k baht in a Thai bank to get a 12 month extension.
Your wife might be able to get a trailing spouse visa based on yours with no financial implications but best to ask the embassy about this as it can influence which option you should go with. This option isn't available inside Thailand.

At a guess your UK passport holder, so you can only go the 800k per main visa holder to qualify for visa and first extension. To move to the 65k monthly method in the 2nd year, you need also to transfer 65k+ from 1st month of moving so you have to maintain both methods for the first 5 months. Then just 65k+ for the rest of the year to get yr 2 extension.

Not gonna lie but I can't get my head round all this as there are so many versions because of people's different circumstances.
I think the best option is to travel back to Thailand and get the correct information from a legal firm or immigration.
We can't afford any mistakes and once we leave the UK we don't want to return unless for a holiday.
Life will be a lot simpler if you sort it out before you leave, the 65k route to getting a visa isnt an option for UK passport holders. I'd at least get one while in the UK, and then you only have to worry about the spouse visa, which if you cant get in the uk, you can sort out here easier as you already have the visa to attach it to.
you can NOT get a trailing spouse visa inside Thailand nor in any neighbouring country. Really his only chance of getting this is before he leaves the UK
not quite true. You have to honour the terms of your 12 month extension in full while also building up a full 12 months of transfers (but you can spend those transfers once they show in your bank)
Per person, unless you can get a trailing spouse visa. This is almost impossible to get now though as most embassies have stopped selling it and it's not available in Thailand.
I think we were very lucky to get a trailing spouse actually in Thailand. Have been trying to get information on renewal alongside my retirement visa but itβs very sparse
