TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the best options for health insurance for a 6-month stay in Thailand. It's noted that if a visa requires health insurance, one may need to purchase it in Thailand; however, if no such requirement exists, obtaining insurance from the UK can be a viable option. Recommendations include Axa for both UK and Thai insurance, and Safetywing as a flexible month-to-month alternative.

Axa very good

Safetywing is always a good option - month by month, and can sign up for it after you arrive anywhere..

Thai insurance is never compulsory for a visa from the UK.

A personal friend obtained an OA from London with Nationwide travel insurance 2 years ago when they were at their strictest. I used the same to get a 90 day O visa.

It depends. If you're getting a visa that requires health insurance you'll have to buy Thai. If not, you may find better value getting at home. For Thai based insurance misterprakan.com is a broker for all the main issuers
