Hi I am entering through Don Muang soon on a SETV obtained from Phnom Penh. I plan to extend this by 30 days then go to Penang around day 88 to apply for a new SETV. 

Is this an acceptable alternative for an onward flight if I am asked either by the airline or immigration, as the norm seems to be the flight has to be before the 60 day original visa exit date?

, I plan to book my flight from Bangkok to Panang very soon, before I enter so I WILL have proof of a valid onward flight, it just won't be before the initial 60 days.

I have everything else I may need thanks to your advice. :) I will actually book a return flight to and from Penang, so will be in the same situation when I return from Penang.

You certainly can be asked for the 3-proof-ofz when you arrive here on a tourist visa, but it's unlikely you will be.

As far as telling them you're going to leave in 88 days but have no proof of that, nope that doesn't cut any ice with them.

As I said it's not likely they're gonna say anything to you at passport control when you stamp into the country.

Buy a refundable ticket, rent a ticket, or make a booking where you can pay in cash where the airline gives you some time to go pay for the ticket
