Is TM30 an absolute requirement for tourist visa 30 day extension?

UPDATE: went to LAK SI Immigration office for the 30 day extension and a TM30 was NOT required.

I did provide my lease agreement in lieu and it was sufficient. However, I too would recommend getting a TM30 just to be safe. Thanks all for your help below!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The necessity of a TM30 form for extending a 30-day tourist visa in Thailand appears to depend on the specific immigration office. While the user successfully obtained an extension at the Laksi immigration office without the TM30 by providing a lease agreement, responses from others indicate that this requirement can vary across locations. Some offices insist on the TM30 regardless of circumstances, while others may not. Therefore, it's advisable for expats to obtain a TM30 to avoid complications, as practices differ significantly between offices.

the TM30 definitely is required on Laksi. You just got lucky when you showed them the lease contract. Tourists who stay privately with friends, normally do not have a lease contract to show, and they will definitely be refused the 30 days extension if they haven't been TM30 registered. You are drawing an conclusion on the base of irrelevant facts, on the base of having got lucky. Do not recommend it to others

You should always have it. When it comes to anything thai govenment use the better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it rule. That said the nice ladys that check the documents before you get your second ticket have justbasked me where I am staying and written it for me in thai. Never needed tm30. American Passport.

Well like any rules and regulations (like carrying your passport always, but people will say "I always take a copy. Never a problem..." Until they pulled you over): it is mandatory (for extention surely, but also in general). If you choose not to get one it is a 1600 baht fine (I believe). I didn't extend in December because I didn't have one...

It depends on the immigration office you go to. No hard and fast rules. Just get one anyway.

Yes. They will make you do your address report before you get to apply for the extension. And it can be done at the immigrant's office.
Brett *********
Just book into a hotel. They will submit. Ask for a copy or screenshot. TM30 records have no saved history. Only your last one counts.

@Brett ********
Sry not fully correct. When I do my TM 30 when visiting the Family of my Thai Wife in Amnat Chareon, the guy from Immigration saw all old TM 30 she ever made.

@Cyrill ******
and what happened ??

@Paul *******
Because as we changed the Tabienbaan of my wife they wanted too know why we have a new Adresse on the TM 30. 😅

I know it's depends which IO or Immigration.

But if you want apply for a EOS, I think it is better you have your things in order to avoid some stress. 😉

That depends on your immigration office. Some may let it slide if you don’t have one. Some will insist. Tell us what office you use and perhaps some will have experience with that office’s policy.

Do you have an actual tourist visa or did you enter visa exempt? If the latter you actually use the Laksi Plaza office to extend.

actually tourist visa. Actually expires tomorrow…

@Jason ****
then you do indeed go to the main government complex at Chaengwattana. Desk J deals with tourist visa extensions. Hopefully you’ve already booked an appointment online. Otherwise it may be a bit of a wait to get service.

where you stay is required to submit a tm30 . If you move then the next place you stay should do the same. Ask for the form from your hotel or wherever you stay. I always request it and been no problem.
Jim ********
@Chuck *********
yes I get that and usually that is the case when I’ve stayed in hotels or long term condo rentals however this time I am staying with a friend. My stay is 62 days so will need to extend as I don’t want 2 days overstay in my passport so by the sounds of it I may have to try and sort the TM30 🤷‍♂️
