Hello all...although my US passport is good for another 8 years all my pages are almost used up from my traveling. Anyone know how long it will take at the US consulate in Chiang Mai or Bangkok office to get a new passport?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The time it takes to get a new US passport in Thailand varies, but recent experiences suggest it generally takes around 3 to 4 weeks. Some individuals report receiving their new passports in as little as 12 days when using express mail. The process is conducted by mail, and applicants can follow online instructions for submission. It's also noted that if you have a Thai visa, it can usually be transferred to the new passport.
You may not need it... the new automated system at BKK Immigrations does NOT stamp the passport, it just scans passport and takes facial pic. If you only travel Thailand, you may be ok.

Can you no longer get extra pages attached to your U.S. passport? I did that once at the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok about 17 years or so ago. If you do go with a new passport, you can normally have your Thai visa & extensions transferred from your old one to the new one. I did this in Udon Thani eons ago.
thanks...interesting...I love visiting the temples in Cambodia

It's been six years now but all I did was follow their instructions and mailed it to the US embassy with all the pre-paid return envelops. I think it took about three weeks.

I'm just about to do the same with my Irish passport, application on line but when passport still has a few years left on it ,it has to be returned, but I go to Irish consulate for them to see the passport and can retain it active in Thailand while new application goes ahead, then I pick up new one after approximately 4 weeks and in receipt of it from consulate the old one is redundant and new one active ,but I keep together as entrance stamps in old one ,I would imagine the US embassy has similar policy but email your embassy for confirmation ππ½
actually the Irish embassy in bkk is one of the most helpful embassies. Check out their website for the list of services. I have sent them 2 years of bank statements in order to provide a letter confirming my income for 2024. For bleeding fing tax purposes and for my LTRV. They said they'd confirm in 5 working days as I called them directly to express the urgency of the matter.
they are brilliant ,I've lived in Cambodia for 14 yrs and SEA for 20 yrs and they have been brilliant with any inquiry ,I was stuck in Thailand during COVID and the Irish embassy were brilliant with help, they always reply to emails very quickly π»
