How long does it take to apply for a METV. Can I apply from outside my country of citizenship or residence?

Where near Thailand is the process currently the quickest?

Also, does anyone have experience with using a short-term loan or a family sponsor to meet the financial requirements? I’m not exactly sure how much is needed, but I’ve heard of people taking out loans just to show the required funds. I’m not sure how safe or reliable this option is.

For context, I’m British.

How did you apply ? Was it in person or the Thailand e visa website ? I'm trying the e visa website as stated on royal Thai embassy in London website but the page keeps freezing !

It was via the Royal Thai Embassy E Visa site. I don't think you can apply in person anymore. It might be worth trying again later or try on a different device. Best of luck.

that's how the evisa site works, you enter your citizenship and location information and it directs you to an appropriate consulate. If your location is uk you will be directed to the UK consulate

well the METV can only be obtained from a consulate in your home country (or one where you have a legal right of residence), so you'd have to be in the UK for that. The DTV can be applied for at most consulates around the world, a very few will only process it for residents but most allow anyone to apply. Where would be quickest for you is going to depend on where you are. If you're already in Thailand then Taipei is currently the quickest, apply one day get back the next, but you'd have to get there by the 27th as after that they move to the evisa system and most places are 10 day processing time for that.
