How long can you stay in Thailand each year with a DTV visa?

No tax payment on over 180 days had been announced or confirmed, guys forget that for now

I talked to someone today and they told me if you don’t have income you won’t get taxed in Thailand. I’m taking a break for a few years of work. I still have to pay my American taxes because I’m 1099. But I won’t be making any income. Also, if you leave the country every days and come back in, you don’t have to report. Every time you come in, they stamp you for the 180 days.

You can stay 180 days on each entry and you can get 1 180 day extension on each entry so the maximum you can stay without leaving is 380 days. To get the extension you need to show similar information to that when you first got the visa. You do need to do 90 day reports every consecutive 90 days you stay in the country. The tax situation is a bit more complicated, if you spend 180 days or more inside Thailand in any calendar year then you are automatically a Thai tax resident. Whether or not you then have to pay tax depends on a variety of factors such as bringing in assessable income in that year, the DTA between Thailand and the country your income comes from and so on
