Visa run question: Going Mae Sai (Tachileik) this wednesday, by bus (Greenbus), from Chiang Mai. I understand that one is requested to bring a departure card, filled in and ready upon arrival at the border... I do not have this card...

Where do I get this departure card in Chiang Mai before wednesday? Or, can I get it upon arrival?

Can any nationality do the mae sai border run or is it to nationalities who are visa exempt only

AFAIK, people who get 90 day visa exempt entries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru & South Korea) cannot bounce out and back in at that border. AND people from the 21 countries that BUY a 15 day visa on arrival for 2000baht can't bounce there either.

There is no Thai Consulate or Embassy. So only people who can enter Thailand with the Visa Exempt Entry or people who need to do a border run for a new stay of their Multiple Entry Visa.

Hm. Ok so it is just the original one... I have that stamped as you say... TM6... I thought I needed a new one... in other words; I do not need anything else than my passport with the slip +500 bath in cash... ?

And after returning to CM one have to go to the new immigration office right? To do what btw?

Visa exempt is the stamp you get entering Thailand for 30 days (free). At immigration in Chiang Mai you get an extension (1900B). If you are currently on an extension, you can't do that again, so need to border bounce to get another visa exempt stamp. You could extend that at CM immigration, but if you are leaving anyway on 25th no need.

Hm... Visa Exempt is - in my understanding what one gets at the local immigration office - for 30 days - the one I currently hold and expires october 5. This is why I have to go to Tachileik - for the 30 day permit - and then I am leaving october 25. There is a little bit of confusement and mixing of of these terms...

If you don't need anything from immigration and will leave before the end of your visa exempt stamp, no, no need to do anything.

Got extension September 5, so now this is a 30 day permit (I guess it is called) and then I leave, october 25 - hopefully coming back with a ED Visa after new year...

Guess I do not have to go anywhere then! Not even the condo or landlord, after Tachileik...

500B or $10. You don't have to go immigration in Chiang Mai when you return. Your landlord should file a new TM30 (my condo office does this on my return- they just take a copy of my passport and new TM6 and do it online) but this only really matters if you are on a non-tourist entry and need something (like an extension or residence cert) from immigration.

Thai Immigration at Mae Sai will not let you leave the county unless you have one. You should have got one when you arrived in Thailand. It is attached to the arrival card which all foreigners must complete on arrival. It should be stapled into your passport. If you have lost it then you will need a police report and go to Immigration to obtain another.
