TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking help to locate an old friend, Nick Houghton, who resides in Thailand but is not active on Facebook. The community discusses the difficulty of finding someone and encourages the user to provide more details about Nick's whereabouts in Thailand. Some members share their own experiences of reconnecting with friends in a similar situation, reflecting on the small community and potential networks available.
Would you happen to know where he originates from in Uk

I do know a guy called Nick, an ex railway man from UK, originates from NW UK, Preston or Warrington. If its the same guy I will pass on the message. Would you be able to PM with a contact number for him to chase up please, if he is indeed the bloke? MTIA

It is the bloke I know. Message sent to him regarding his mate in UK
If he is a member of an expat community somewhere in Thailand(like most people are) his name and occupation might be enough. This is a very extensively read forum. If you can't help him, just move on.
perhaps half of all expats living in Thailand don't work here because they're retired, are remote workers or FIFO or something. In this case, knowing their name and location and any personal interests/groups he may be in (as you suggest) would help.
and you take your individual experience for reality.. So the majority of Western expats come to Thailand, make zero friends here who speak English. Learn Thai instantly and only make Thai friends?
this expat thing is something for you english people so you take this i dividual experie.ce of your fot a generality. and you believe there is no life out of your expat community !!
!! the whole world isn't concerned by your need of being together . but don't worry . people can survive perfectly well out of those expat groups .. and everbodh is happy of your happiness in those groups .no problem
again, who said group? YOU. Expat community doesn't have to be a fixed group. As I said, it's literally just knowing some other expats and / or having some friends who are expats. Nice to see a non expat is an expert tho...
Also, this is fb group is an "expat community"... You're in one right now....
