So I read in a few posts that we have to submit the flight number of a booked flight when applying for DTV.
Is this correct?
It seems strange to book a flight before you have an approved visa.
In our case, my husband is applying for DTV and when his is approved, myself & 3 kids will then apply with him as our sponsor.
Why would we want to book 5 tickets if we donโt know the visa will be approved?
How have other families done this?

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a DTV visa in Thailand, you are often required to provide a flight number for your application. However, it's common practice to simply choose a flight number without having a confirmed booking. Many embassies do not require proof of flight tickets, and you can opt for a flight that is refundable or one that allows holding a reservation at no cost. This provides flexibility since plans can change based on visa approval.
Just book a flight you can cancel. When the visa is rejected, cancel the flight. When the visa is approved, decide if it is better to cancel and book cheaper flight or just use the booked flight.

You need to book flight to apply for a visa to any country.
But just book a fully refundable one if you want to be sure. You don't even have to use that ticket or fly on that date once your visa is approved anyway.

Look up any airline and write down the flight number on any date and time for the application. Not many embassies will ask for proof of flight booking. Once approved, many people change their flight plans anyway
Yes, they do. You can book with an airline like Qatar, which lets you hold the reservation for free. Some airlines like Turkish Airlines require you to pay a holding fee.
