TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers on applying for a NON-O marriage visa in Thailand after marrying an Italian national. A key point is that while a Thai bank account may not be strictly required for the NON-O visa application—especially if the application is based on being married to a foreigner with a valid work permit—having one could facilitate certain bureaucratic processes. It's noted that some banks may allow account openings even on a tourist visa or without a work permit, but the requirements can vary by bank. Essential documents for the visa application typically include your passport, marriage certificate, and your spouse's work permit details.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.

Depending on the immigration office you deal with AND what type of visa you're on here now you might <- as in perhaps, be able to go from a 30 day visa exempt entry or a 60 day tourist visa entry to first a 90 day Non-Immigrant Type O visa based on being married to someone who legally works here on the correct visa and work permit. You would need at least 15 days (or more) left on your current stamp, you would get documentation from your spouses company that states they will allow you to get a Non-O visa based on being a "trailing spouse".
You should go to your immigration office with your wife AND a representative from here company to check to see IF you can get the Non-O visa inside the country because NOT all offices will issue it and you might have to leave the country and go to a thai consulate in a nearby country to get the 90 day Non-O visa. After that you would apply for a yearly extension that matches your wifes at the immigration office

you can get a thai bank account. i just got one on a tourist visa. bangkok bank. however i had a thai person writing a “guarantee” that i am a good person, not a criminal. not a financial guarantee though. try different banks and even branches. have a thai helping and asking

Some branches don't require any document even if you are on tourist status. Some require you jut address verification (residence certification, etc). Some require more documents or just don't open account for tourists. All depends on which branch, not the bank... At least in Bangkok.

there is no financial requirement when you are applying for a Non-O visa based on being married to a foreigner who legally works here.

Can you apply for this here in Thailand at the immigration or do you have to do this abroad at a consulate or embassy?

It depends on the Thai consulate/embassy where you're applying for the Non imm O. Check their website for requirements

Hi mike. You dont need a bank account. Your wifes company should help you process a spousal visa. All you should need is your passport, your marriage certificate, you wifes passport with non b visa, some photos and a letter from your wifes company.

If you want or need a bank account, you can get one, even on a tourist visa or visa-free entry, but you will have to try several banks and branches.
don't worry about it. I was up until 1am reading a bunch of really dry stupid journal articles before a late meeting (that was cancelled at the last minute). I feel for you.
again I mis-read. Sorry not making excuses but I was in line at immigrations at 5AM this morning so I'm a little foggy :/ You're right, a foreigner CAN get a Non-O visa (and a matching extension) if their spouse holds a Non-B/extension and legally works here with a work permit.
how is that different then what I said. If a foreign man is here working legally on a non-B, can't the foreign wife get a Non-O because the husband has a non-B visa? The wife has the Non-O only because the husband has a non-B?

You are correct A Non-O can be issued based on marriage to another foreigner IF that foreigner legally works here on the correct visa and work permit.
, welcome to the group and feel free to help people IF you know the answer BUT if you don't please don't speculate on things. Thanx in advance for your cooperation
yes she is here legally with a work permit and we are married under thai government so I can get a visa based on hers allowing me to stay a year but without being able to work.

Mike you cannot get a Thai marriage visa as you are married to an Italian not a Thai person. What you may be able to get is some sort of dependant visa as your wife works here legally and you need to be with her. Maybe you can also consider your own visa such as education visa
Ok I think you misunderstand because I've checked I can do this. It states I need a thai bank account to do this, however when I've tried they tell me I need a work permit to open one
because my wife has a work permit therefore making me eligible for a year visa.

As far as I know the extension/visa based on marriage is only if you are married to a Thai national. You should in stead apply for an extension based on dependant on a person who has a non-o B
Mike it was a wording issue. When you say a Non O because of marriage that normally refers to the Visa or extension you get when married to a Thai. You are trying to get a Non O because you are a dependent of a foreigner legally working here with a Non B Visa. That said I have never heard of someone in your situation being told you had to have a bank account.
finally someone who understands. Starting to think I was an idiot for thinking this is possible but I know of people doing this and seems easy. My main issue is regarding the bank account
