Since my Non-B visa extension of stay expires on Sunday, March 31st, 2024, can I return my work permit and notify immigration on the following business day, April 1st, or do I need to complete this process by March 29th to avoid any complications with my departure flight on April 1st? why wouldn't you get the paperwork from your employer stating your last day is the day your Non-B extension is valid until,

Go to the MOL cancel your work permit, take the termination paperwork to the immigration office a week BEFORE you're leaving cancel your current extension (they will stamp you in until the date on the termination paperwork) and then just leave ?

Just curious why you'd wait until the last day?

My employer informed me the Phetchaburi work permit officer won't accept my early application (they even sent a screenshot as proof). This is confusing because I planned to return my permit and notify immigration about my contract ending on March 31st. Now, the officer only allows submission on March 29th or April 1st. Can I still go to immigration and notify them about the cancellation one day after my visa extension expires?

To clarify, I simply return my work permit on April 1st, notify immigration on the same day, pay the 500 THB overstay fine, and then leave Thailand? This seems like a better option than paying the 1500 THB fine and flying out on April 1st. Thanks, Tod and everyone else for the advice!

, There are some offices that only accept cancellations on the effective day, not in advance. In that case, you might not have many choices. Possibly,

1. As mentioned in the mail, ask your employer to set the due date as 1 April. Apply cancellation on that day before you fly out.

2. Apply for cancellation on 29 March. Immediately apply for a tourism (or whatever reason) extension for a 1,900 baht fee to receive an "application denied, up to 7 days to leave the kingdom" stamp. (Bring your air ticket).

3. Apply for cancellation on 1 April, then leave. (<-this part I'm not sure whether you could have hard time or it is the same procedure as cancellation within the time, or else) You may or may not be fined, but you will get an overstay stamp.
