Can I do a land-border run to extend my stay in Thailand after a SETV extension?

Hi! I need more to buy more time in Thailand as a tourist, before applying for my non-o. Looking for the cheapest/easiest option.

I arrived on a SETV, used the 60 days, and then extended it for 30 days at CM immigration. My question is: Can I still do a land-border run to Mae Sai or Vientiane to get another 30 days, even though I already am on an extension?

Secondly, if so, can I then extend that for another 30 days at CM immigration, if need be? Thus, giving me 30-60 more days.

Thank you greatly for your help!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on whether they can perform a land-border run to Mae Sai or Vientiane to obtain an additional 30-day visa after already extending their initial SETV (Single Entry Tourist Visa) for an extra 30 days. They are also inquiring if this new visa could be further extended at Chiang Mai immigration. Responses indicate that border runs to both Mae Sai and Vientiane are viable options, with suggestions to consider the additional costs associated with each location, as well as reminders about the limits on visa-exempt entries for the year.

Im already in Thailand on a SETV and plan on getting a 30 day extension. Is there a reputable visa service in Nong Khai that would bring me into Vientiane and help me get another SETV in September, or is it easy enough to do it myself?

The thai consulate in Vientiane is the busiest consulate in S/E Asia. There are HUNDREDS of people going there every day. If you can get to the Nong Khai border, just follow the herd of foreigners slogging to the thai consulate in Vientiane to get a visa for thailand ;)

Thank you, Michael!

Do it yourself, very easy.

If you happen to go to Nong Khai, you might as well get another setv. It buys you 60 days, and Vientiane is a great city, not much places in Thailand come close.

Thank you for the clarification! Do you know if this also works for the Vientiane, Laos land border ?

When you say a LOT more....is is about another 500 baht or $15 more.....but yes as you said. Go all that way to Vientiane, might as well get a SETV.

Thank you, Mark! Great point. I completely forgot about the Laos visa

You could do it at Nong Khai (where you cross to go to Laos) but you would have to pay for a Laos visa which would be a lot more than the 500 baht they want at the Mae Sai border. If you're going to go to Vientiane, you might as well apply for a new SETV that will get you 60 days that can be extended +30 days.

When your current extension is expiring you can go to the Mae Sai -Tachiliek border with Burma and get a 30-day Visa exempt entry. You can extend that at the immigration office for 30 more days for 1900baht.

Remember you can only get TWO 30 day Visa exempt entries buy land in a calendar year.
