Probably asked and answered but can't find in a search function.

Is the only place I can get a retirement visa my country of origin?

Headed to Europe and would like to avoid the going to USA hassles (not to mention the flight times and cost). I can get a 6 month METV in Rome but can I get a "retirement" visa?

Okay, how about we stick to the question asked by the O/P?

She specifically asked: Is the only place I can get a retirement visa my country of origin?

Let's use her question to suss out what she means by "retirement visa" :O She is obviously referring to a year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type O-A (Long Stay) visa <- the one you get in YOUR country before you come here.

The answer to her question would be; you can apply for an O-A visa from a thai consulate in your country OR a country you legally hold residence in <- that does NOT mean one you are visiting but means one that you LIVE in and have a long term visa/extension etc from.

So no, just vacationing in Europe isn't gonna let you get an O-A visa from ANY thai consulate there.

You can come on a tourist visa or visa exempt entry. Convert that to 90 day non-O retirement. You will need the ฿800K in Thai bank, or possibly can use verified retirement income ฿60,000/month, verification of residence from embassy or immigration, condo or house contract, but no medical or police check. They will hold for 2 weeks consideration, may visit your home. Then when it’s near to 90 days, and your money has been in Thai bank for 60 days, you go to immigration and get 1 year extension, with 90 days reporting needed, and re-entry permits if you leave Thailand during your stay.

65k yes. I actually used money in bank method anyway. I was approved as above, 3 visits. Not wrong that’s how it was fir me. Your experience may be different.?

 No, it will take at 15 or even 21 days under consideration if you apply for the Non Immigrant O visa inside Thailand but your are correct for the Extension of Stay.

NIce, it is 65.000 Thb minimum coming in from abroad on your Thai bank, but as OP has stated she does not qualify for the Extension of Stay.

Maybe strange but I read yesterday on a different Facebook page: US citizen went to the US Embassy in KL, got the income affidavit from them. Used this for his Extension of Stay application in Krabi and got approved without questions.

The big questions is does Immigration allow income affidavits from any Embassy of your country or was this a mistake by not checking where this affidavit was made.

I checked the website of the Thai Embassy in Rome, Point 3 of the requirements for the Non Immigrant O-A visa is a Residence Permit.

Currently hold non OA. Don't qualify for extension as in country doesn't count investment income. We will leave before the current visa expires. Then try to get a new non OA and extend it in a year with border bounce.

It all depends on which of the 4 visa's based on being over 50 years of age, you call a "retirement visa".
