TLDR : Answer Summary
Germans entering Thailand on a 30-day visa exemption are eligible for a one-time extension of 30 days at a local Immigration Office. To extend, they must provide the usual paperwork, photos, and pay the applicable fee.

Extend the same as anyone. Go to immagration with the usual paperwork, photos and fee

If they used a German Passport to enter the country, the 30 day Visa Exempt Entry can be extended once with another 30 days based on tourism at a local Immigration Office.

thank you! Do you know when they should extend? Just before it expires, or any time?

Can do any time, but must be during opening times of the Immigration Office

@Robert ******
So the 'visa on arrival' can be extended even 10+ days before it expires?
Robert *******
@Paige *******
NO, a Visa On Arrival can NOT be extended. Check your passport if you have a Visa on Arrival as shown in this picture.

My stamp is a narrow horizontal rectangle. Is 'visa on arrival' the same as visa exemption? Thank you for your help!

@Paige *******
IF you didn't pay 2000baht when you stamped in and if you didn't get stamped in for 15 days you DO NOT have a visa on arrival

IF you showed up here without a visa in your passport and got stamped in for FREE for 30 days you are on a visa exempt entry and you can extend that ONE time for 30 days for 1900baht

what documents do you need for the 30 day extension? I’m here on exempt and it’s my first time to extend I’m a bit lost.

face it you're far from the first person here to get a 30 day extension, most immigration offices (seeing as you don't say what office of the 70+ ones here you're using) have copy shops nearby and the people manning them know exactly the copies to make,

as a rule you need

a passport sized photo (actually stated on the application as a 4X6 cm one, but most any will do)

a filled out TM7 application for extension (that you can down load and print front to back on ONE piece of paper or pick up there at the immigration office)

copies of

the data page of your passport

your entry stamp

your TM6 departure card

AND you might need a copy of the TM30 (that the hotel or the land lord of where you're staying was supposed to file with immigrations notifying them of a foreigner in residence there) BUT that is office specific and you might not need it

Those things and 1900baht get you an extension.

Post on a f/b group related to where you stay/live here in thailand asking what documents you need for an extension and you'll get people who've done it answer you

and if you show up before 25.3 and you have a tm30 ( Proof of Adress) you might be lucky and the nice Immigration Officer give you 60 day COVID Extension

Not unless they have applied for the tourist extension of 30 days first
