I have watched this topic for sometime now .

My airline ( Korean Air ) has no requirement for a onward flight . There is nothing on the official Thai website about this being a requirement.

My plan is to take the slow boat from northern Thailand to Luang Prabang.

I would like to not have a big problem at the Bangkok airport after a long flight.
