Question here for the DTV holders currently residing in Thailand longer than 180 days per year therefore becoming liable for Thai income tax returns. Does anyone here have any experience dealing with a local agent that understands the situation and double tax treaties? I’m a full time online freelancer earning %100 of my income from Australian clients and pay Australian income taxes and GST. Any experience from others or recommendations for a local agent would be appreciated as we are intending to stay for 1 full year leaving the country only a few times between those 180 day periods for some other travel. From what I understand you’re only taxed on what is remitted into Thailand however it seems largely a grey area.
Tax Resident: if I understand it correctly you are only considered a tax resident if you stay more than 180 days per calendar year? This year I will be staying 166 days in Thailand, my plan is also to stay here the whole month of january 2025. Just want to hear your thoughts on this, I am 100 % sure I wont be considered a tax resident for 2024? Do they look at calendar year only, so I will be safe for 2024? Note: I know there are DTA in place but its impoirtant to me I do not became a tax resident here. Thanks for any advice!

Specifically for Canadians, does the Thai Elite Visa truly offer Thailand tax residency and will free me from Canadian taxes? After 180 days staying in TH? Are there any Canadians with an Elite Visa that can attest to this?
