Hi I wonder if anybody can help me. I previously lived in Thailand in 2015 and did 4 visa runs with a visa agency. I returned home back to South Africa at the end of 2016 and stayed home for an entire year. I have just returned to Thailand (on a brand new passport this is the first visa in it) I applied for it back home in South Africa and it arrived back with all this writing on my visa. I have a visa extension and visa run coming up pretty soon, I just want to know will I have trouble getting my visa extension and have trouble when doing the visa run In Laos due to the writing on my visa even if I go with a visa company ? As I said it’s a brand new passport with only one Thai visa in. The last thing I need is to go on the visa run and get turned away In Laos.Any help will be greatly appreciated 🙂!

The writing is to inform the immigration to check your financial or show fund to them upon entering the country. Maybe they suspects that you are working illegally and not just stay for a tourist.

Fyi: it doesnt matter if you have a new passport. They use your full name and date of birth and nationality to check and validate your information if you have ever enter the country or your travel history.

For that matter- if you only need 15 days you don't even need to get a visa, you can just do a border bounce without going to the consulate and you should get 30 days visa exempt.

I don't think you'll likely have an issue in Laos. You only have one visa in this passport and the consulate won't see your past history. Immigration will be able to see the history but are very unlikely to take issue with you if you are coming back with a visa. That particular border, Nong Khai, is quite easy going.

Yeah it’s gotten a lot more strict since I came here on holiday in 2015. My return date is booked 15 days after my extension expires so I just need it for that

Even when my bf and I went to this Thai event that was outdoors, high security and police, he had to go to foreigner line and show his copy of his passport page that he carries in his wallet and they were able to look in the database and reminded him when his visa extension was going to expire.

The consulates don't have any centralised database, they only go off your passport, that might be what he is thinking of. Immigration do have a computerised database but the consulates don't see that when deciding on your visa.

 Every Immigration office and checkpoint are connected to a nice database. They will see the complete history of you entering, leaving and which visa or visa exempt you did use. They even have the pictures available made at every entry and application of Extension of Stay.

Unfortunately not, thailand is not there yet, they cn only see your last visa in your previous passport, nothing before that

That thai consulate in Pretoria has started writing a LOT of stuff on peoples' visas :/ I saw a notation on a tourist visa from them that the person had to go back to S/A to get a Non-B. :O

I wouldn't pay any attention to it, you'll be fine in Vientiane..

NO visa run companies run to Savannakhet, they only go to Vientiane

You won't have any problem getting a single entry tourist visa from the thai consulate there. They don't ask for proof of onward travel, proof of funds or proof of a hotel booking

My wife said that the top line was period of stay, May to June.

She said the second line was an instruction to check your financial status.

The second line says what is your motivation for career then it is illegible for the last few words.

Motivation for career could mean do you plan on working.

, but just to make it clear for all readers. a Border run is just stamp out, stamp in/out other country and come directly back into Thailand. What you do is a visa run, organised trip to Laos, company apply for Visa, you stay overnight in Laos, get passport back with new visa and return to Thailand.

You exit the country on a tourist visa which is about to expire, go to Laos with the visa company, they sort everything out and you get another 60 day visa

, you mean without visiting a consulate or embassy, just go to the Laos border stamp out Thailand, stamp in/out Laos and come back into Thailand you get a 60 day Single Entry Tourist Visa?

You apply for an Extension of Stay at your local Immigration Office, if you do a border run than you go for a new Visa Exempt Entry.

I think ask at your local immigration office is best. I do think though it's possibly an administration error on there part at the Embassy and they have tried to correct it. In any case a quick trip to your local immigration office will clarify things for you.
