Not to take up anyone's time but my last excursion to Thailand I received an extra stamp in my passport on leaving. Wife said matey had something to say about being an overstay on my visa but no more then 24 hours. I wasn't fined or anything but I'm curious to know if it may cause any dramas in the future? Thanks guys and this Page is the duck's nuts, so much information, thankyou.

Always pays to look at your stamps. You were stamped in until the 17th, and departed on the 18th, so that's one day over. But as Tod points out, it's no big deal.

And it's the time you go through immigration. So if your flight leaves early on the 4th, as long as you clear immigration before midnight on the 3rd, you're ok

it's actually quite clear in my photo, I was granted till the 17th but I left on the 18th, there is no time stamp so it must all relate to calender days.

the overstay starts at 12AM on the day after your stamp SO if you have a stamp dated Jan 3 and you stamp out on the 4th you're ON overstay. it's just if you fly out they don't charge you the 500baht

Tod, just a question, too, for my clarity: if stamped 'valid until Jan. 3', the overstay starts on Jan. 4? I still could fly out on Jan. 3 without any issue, right?

I don't know how to make it any clearer

If you have an overstay of less than 24 hours and are flying out they waive the overstay 500 baht fine and just put that small thai stamp in your passport

it's the "overstay under 24 hours no fine" stamp and it will NOT cause you any issues at all getting visas or entering thailand. They only waive the 500 baht for overstay under 24 hours when you FLY out, if you'd have went out by the border you'd have gotten fined.
