TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation highlights a common confusion regarding visa terminology for foreigners married to Thai nationals. It points out that the Non-O visa, which is often discussed, is actually the same as the O visa, officially known as Non-Immigrant Type O. This visa is categorized under various reasons, including marriage to a Thai national.

An O visa and a Non-O visa are the same thing ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

The real name of that visa is Non-Immigrant Type O <- the O stands for OTHER

They are issued for other reasons; marriage to a thai, being over 50 [retirement], being married to a foreigner who works here, raising children [thai or foreign], volunteering, etc)

nope, non-o visas do not need insurance no matter the reason you're getting it for and no matter what a website or consulate might say.

an O visa is a Non-O visa, ๐Ÿ™ just a shorter way of saying it

There are only two Non-O visa types need insurance the O-A and the O-X only

Then what stands the "A" for in a Non-Immigrant Visa type "O-A"?
Tod *********
@Winfried ************
the A is a suffix added to many visa categories O-A , ED-A, B-A, etc and means that the visa is good for a year entry stamp not the typical 90 day

thank you. I always thought the "A" was for Abroad, as in obtained abroad.
