Iâm doing my 1 night quarantine hotel in Bangkok and was notified earlier that my PCR test is negative. Unfortunately, the hotel reception says that I canât leave my room till tomorrow unless Iâm checking out to going elsewhere. Canât even use the pool or hotel gym.
First time Iâve heard of this. Thought I was free to go out and explore tonight.
Any thoughts? Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster is experiencing confusion regarding their quarantine hotel in Bangkok. Despite receiving a negative PCR test, hotel reception informs them they cannot leave their room until the following day unless checking out. Comments from other users indicate mixed experiences with different hotels regarding policies on leaving after a negative result. Some users suggest that restrictions vary by hotel, and others share instances where guests were free to leave after testing negative. It seems that this issue might stem from miscommunication or differences in individual hotel policies.
thatâs what happened. It was at a more classy hotel so maybe the less expensive ones are more lenient

Hope everything goes wellâŠâŠ I was at the Raddison - Well an Annex to the back of the RaddisonâŠ.. Asked for the smallest can of Coke (Same size as a smallest red bull)âŠ.. charged 100 BhtsâŠ.. I donât do the other coke but would probably be cheaperâŠ. Now my friend., you may have to make your own way to the Airport to travel elsewhereâŠâŠ Nowhere from Central Bangkok should charge more than 300 Bhts - Kind regards from KHONKAENâŠ.. I was told I could leave after my negative test but chose to stay the night. They were happy for me to leave the room and also return so went to

and a street market nearby. Not an issue at Miloft Sathorn Hotel. Canât recommend it though, pretty basic room and meals. 4,200 Baht including everything and the ATK test for later.

I'd prefer to get a good night's sleep, and travel on next day if negative result.

So IF you have a negative result and you book another night you still cannot leave!, Soon as I got negative result in Phuket I was free to leave and return
sandbox program is different. Iâm free to checkout and go anywhere in Thailand now but canât leave and return to this room since itâs on a floor with other quarantine people.
I got my negative test in the morning, then paid for an additional night. I was free to go out and come back in my room anytime in the quarantined floor.
Each hotel would have their own rules, but that certainly is a strange one. Once youâve gotten a negative test then you should be free to travel anywhere, and not even sleep in the hotel if you didnât want to. Probably best to ask to speak to a manager and confirm their policy. Itâs probably a lowly desk clerk telling you that rule and they donât really know their stuff.
The same thing they told me even if you have a negative test. They don"t want you wondering around and become infected with Covid as when you check out you get a certificate stating you tested negative for Covid
With "Exemption from Quarantine (aka Test & Go)", it's 1 night OR negative result. You should be free to venture out now. Sadly, it sounds like the hotel doesn't have accurate information, but maybe their own process it different with their certificate.
yea I know what it means, mine was exactly the same. After doing 15 nights last year you wouldnât think one night would be so bad, but after sleeping all day I said fuck it and checked out. Went out for a nice dinner and got a couple errands done.
Now to just see what happens with some of restrictions.
Iâm jealous of your proper dinner. Mine just arrived in a meal prep container and nowhere near filling. Not an American portion!! Couldnât have done 15 night of this. Donât know how you survived.
How could you possibly be in the vicinity of people waiting for their results. Theyâd be in their room. Weird but as I said each item have their own rules. It may be a government ruling but itâs the first time Iâve seen a post about it.
i checked in with someone else, walked to my own room in what was clearly an area where other people were in the test and go, just didnât seem that strange to me that being a âquarantine programâ that coming and going, even after your test result might not make that much sense.
It definitely wasnât anywhere near the same level of caution as coming in last year for the full 2 weeks
thanks for the input. According to reception staff itâs the government policy since this is technically a 1 night quarantine. Not a big sacrifice but seems odd. Iâm free to leave but have to check out if I do.
And if it were a one night quarantine, the government wouldn't repeatedly and consistently refer to it as "exemption from quarantine". The official announcements have all stated pretty clearly that your obligation to remain in lockup ends the minute you get the negative result... My suspicion is that the hotel doesn't feel confident that it can differentiate between "negative testers going out for a walk" and "folks waiting for results sneaking out", so they've made up their own rule and blamed it on the government.
