In all my years coming to Thailand, today is the first time I have seen airport staff counting passengers in with clickers prior to immigration area.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user observed that airport staff at a Thai airport were counting passengers entering prior to the immigration area with clickers, sparking a discussion about the purpose of this practice. While some users noted that this has been happening for years, others speculated it might relate to tracking tourist numbers or security. Comments also touched on recent changes to immigration processes and the current influx of tourists, indicating a heightened interest in maintaining accurate counts at airports.
Opinion; there has been an incredible influx of visitors recently (per my Thai fiancé) nothing wrong in making an accurate count of individuals coming through the Bangkok airport. Many people have waited for three years to visit. Wonderful to see a huge boost in the tourist trade and economic benefits. The snarky comments are rude, useless and unnecessary.
during what time of the day did you fly in and how were the lines? I saw a video yday that had lines at BKK that I had never seen before. I flew in at 2300 6 weeks ago and I was out in less than 10min.

I agree the new booth were nice too,.hopefully soon it will come down to machines only and just 1 person sitting and overseeing like they have in Amsterdam. I believe Thai nationals can now go thru via Machine only!
i can remember every time I came off the plane there would be at least two Thai persons clicking passengers off the plane long before Covid came along not sure why maybe it’s a security issue
