My daughter is coming to Thailand next month for about a month. We are planning a side trip to Laos but on day 16 of her arrival. What visa should we be looking at. She has US citizenship.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A US citizen traveling to Thailand can stay without a visa for up to 45 days. Upon entering Thailand, she will get a visa exemption stamp if her arrival is before March 2023. For the side trip to Laos, she can obtain a Visa on Arrival, or better yet, opt for an E-Visa to save time at the border, as travelers recommend it due to shorter waiting times compared to the Visa on Arrival process.
Tip: For Laos, look imto Evisa, much easier than standing in the que at the airport, other travelers will envy her

She doesn't need a visa for Thailand. As a US citizen she'll get 45 days visa exempt (if she's arriving before March 2023). She can buy a Visa On Arrival for Laos when she goes there, and then another visa exempt stamp when she comes back to Thailand.

You don't need to do anything. She'll get stamped into Thailand for 45 days each time she enters the country without a visa. I believe Laos has visa on arrival for Americans.
