Hey all - newbie here. Looking for advice as 2 Canadians wanting to stay in Thailand for 6 months ( November 15 to May 15(ish)). There is so much contradicting information out there on the internet and we are confused!

We are thinking we will get the 60 day tourist visa here in Canada, get a 30 day extension there then mid February fly over to Cambodia for about a week and fly back. 

Upon returning - what are our options to stay the next three months?

Also - we do not have our return flight booked yet, can someone explain the requirements for having flights booked out of the country.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks so much for the advice - i read the Metv was no longer valid as of September 2022. And I dont see the metv option on thaievisa.go.th > any advice??

in case this helps. I am in the same situation (going to Thailand in April next year) and I emailed the Canadian Thai Embassy and replied this:

You’ll need to get another Tourist visa in Phnom Penh or Laos or apply for the multi entry tourist visa you can get almost 9 months out of it

When applying for the METV, you would show the consulate your tickets out to the neighboring country within the first 60 days of arrival in Thailand and back sometime after, to prove necessity of the METV visa. Once you arrive you are under no obligation to stick to that itinerary, so you can buy cheap throwaway tickets to a nearby country or get flexible date tickets. The METV is valid for 6 months and well timed entry with extension can garner almost 9 months of stay.

you apply ONLINE for a 6 month METV using either Ottawa or Vancouver thai consulates depending on where you are in Canada

thanks! What would a genuine reason to visit often be? And do multi entry visas get rejected often?

you should book your ticket TO thailand and then 60 days or so after that you show a flight out and back a few days later (like to KL or Singapore) that shows you are coming here, then leaving and coming back.

That's enough reason to get the METV issued.

The STV was stopped in Canada Sept 22, however the Multi-entry tourist visa (METV) is still an option and would be the ideal visa for you guys to apply for.
