Hi. I am an expat currently living and working in Thailand since October 2015. On January 29th I transitioned from an annual work permit and visa to a single-entry Non-B Business Consulting visa while a Thai business entity is set up for my employer here. I obtained this visa from the Thai embassy in Phnom Penh. This Non-B visa is set to expire on April 28th and as of now, my employment under the new Thai entity is still in process and will not be completed by April 30th when the current visa amnesty finishes. April 28th will also be my 90th day in Thailand. With my current business consulting visa I am allowed to work here but I don't fit many of the regular criteria necessary when extending a visa. I contacted my embassy requesting a letter recommending my visa be extended but they told me they're not issuing these anymore due to the visa amnesty until April 30th. At this point I don't know what I can do unless the amnesty is extending further beyond April 30th. Is it advisable for me to visit the immigration office before then even if I don't have a letter from my embassy or much of the normal requirements for an extension? I would rather not wait until the end of the month in the hope that the amnesty might be extended and when Chaengwattana is overrun with thousand of people also looking for extensions. I'd also like to ask what are the probable scenarios in the event I am forced to overstay my visa by a few days or possibly longer. As you can guess I want to avoid this however I can. I'm grateful for any insight or advice the admins can share here. Thank you.
