TLDR : Answer Summary
The Non Immigrant ED Visa for Chinese passport holders allows an initial stay of 90 days in Thailand. This visa can potentially be extended with the correct documentation from the educational institution. Extensions can be for either 60 or 90 days, depending on the specific paperwork provided by the school.
thank you, but if have tourist visa issued from Thai embassy in China, it can be switched to an ED visa in country? That is what I understand from your reply.
chinese would need to apply for a tourist visa or an ED visa before they come here because you can't go from a 15 day visa on arrival <- the one chinese BUY when they show up here for 2000baht to a Non-ED visa inside the country
It is for my step daughter who is enrolled at The NIST international school. The consulate in Guangzhou China denied the non O for her saying that there is no relationship even though I am married to her mother. So they said apply for the ED visa.
are they enrolled in a real university or a private language school?

You get the Single Entry Non Immigrant ED Visa and this will gives you 90 days of stay. You can extend this stay at local Immigration with the correct papers from the school, Depending on school and papers you will get 60 or 90 days Extension of Stay at the time.
