TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the need for an onward travel ticket when visiting Thailand, particularly for those with a one-way ticket or those on visa-exempt entry. Several community members suggested various options for refundable bus tickets, including using services like eDreams and BusOnlineTicket. There is a consensus that while airlines may ask for an onward ticket, immigration in Thailand rarely checks for it. Various commentators mentioned the potential for purchasing fake tickets for peace of mind and highlighted the importance of researching airline policies regarding travel requirements.
Bestonwardticket been using for Thailand since 2012

A lot of countries have onward ticket requirement on the books. It's hard to find out which though. But they do. And it's often the Airline taking you to the country who will initially enforce it. I went to Brazil on a one-way flight and at the Delta counter I was asked when I was returning. They wanted to make sure I had an exit. I gave them the date and they asked if it was with Delta and I said no it was with Latam .. they didn't want to see the onward ticket I'd bought. They just wanted to know. Anyhow ... here is an interesting episode on the always entertaining radio vagabond when he almost missed a flight to Colombia for this reason
π people so gullible, if it makes you feel safe, there are plenty of websites that sell fake flights for 10$ , it's actually not fake they purchase a ticket for you and then cancel it

Flew to Bangkok , visa on arrival, no ongoing flight, no problem π but up to you !?
Thailand don't care about your ticket status its mainly here in Australia that they could stop you boarding if its only a one way ticket, it all depends on the airline and the person you get booking you in
They never ask for onward travel ticket when you enter the country. Only airlines trying to sell you another flight.

It's the job of the airline to make sure you meet the legal requirements for entry. Visa exempt requires a onward ticket by Thai law. The airlines are following the law and will be held financial responsible for your return plus a fine if they allowed someone to board that doesn't meet the requirements. It has nothing to do with being upsold.
Rarely immigration will check unless they want think you might intend to overstay or have insufficient funds. This is why western travels sometimes are not checked at all and the airline may not ask either.
correct. I'm aware that the airline will want to see onwards travel.. of which I dont have. I'm not sure if I'm going to stay just 1 month or 2. Planning on teaching English in cambodia in the near future. So instead of buying a expensive flight I thought someone might know of a cheaper bus alternative. Or train. I have seen it mentioned on one of these fb paged before.
