TLDR : Answer Summary
When filling out the DTV file for a visa application, you should indicate a departure date within 180 days of your arrival in Thailand, as you are required to specify a date that aligns with your visa duration. There is flexibility; you do not have to follow through with the indicated date.

When applying for a visa, always put the departure date within the number of days you'll receive on a stamp into Thailand. So you would put something within 180 days of your arrival date. There is nothing that says you have to keep either of the dates you enter.
