1.Marriage to a Thai. 

Can I get a checklist of things that need doing. 

Story so far. 

Affirmation and passport verification translations both done. At embassy. 

2. Non O visa checklist of things needing doing. 

Story so far as above also proof of income at embassy done and translation also. 

I’d prefer to go to local immigration however they have said to leave the country to convert tourist visa to non o. 

My second choice is to go to Vientiane because I know it well. 

What to do next. 

Please advise on:

Either point 1 or point 2 or both. 

Or neither without commenting.

Io is suggesting that my application this year should be OK however next year I will not be able to show statements of income from abroad and this year the government is being flexible. Next year will have to show a balance B400,000, does this tally up with your expectations?

no matter what they said, don't get your knickers in a twist over it. The police order changes are on the interweb IN THAI and it clearly says you can use overseas transfers to meet the proof of funds requirement.

You've got a year before you need to do it again, keep up on the transfers and lets see how things go the rest of the year. As of now you're fine to use that method again next year.

because IF you as a brit had applied for a notary letter with the british consulate BEFORE Dec 12th <- the day they stopped accepting applications you would have gotten a notary that would be valid for 6 months <- meaning as long as your extension was before June you could have used that notary letter.

, the only thing you need to worry about is IF you're going to use the 40K baht a month in international transfers into thailand for proof of funds, because that's gotta be started a month BEFORE your extension comes due and run for a full 12 months before you can use that option.

If you're using all banked money, there is no proof that it came from abroad required, only that it's in the account for 2 months prior to you applying for the extension

he is wrong there are two options (three actually) to show proof of funds for people who can't get consulate notary letters any more

Bank all 400K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months prior to you applying for the extension

Transfer in from overseas 40K baht a month into a thai bank account in your name only for a full 12 months prior to you applying for the extension

AND the 3rd option is

Legally work here with a salary of at least 40K baht a month and show tax statements, work permit, contract, withholding documents etc as proof

He is telling me that I will only have the ability to use the banked method. (He thinks he is informing me that this rule is new) Im sorry if my explanation was off.

you will either show 400K baht banked in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before you apply for the yearly extension OR you transfer in 40K baht a month into the country from abroad into your thai bank account for 12 months before you apply for your extension. Those are the options of meeting the financial requirements based on marriage

Yes agents can do them. It's the same as when you use an agent to do your extension here and then try to do it yourself the following year. They flatly refuse and tell you to use your agent.

Oh, really, I didn't know that. :/ As recent as July of this year they were doing them,

BUT

they were making people who wanted them and were using the income notary to get the MFA stamp on the consulate letter.

Plus some "paper-pushers" (visa agents) down there still say they can do the conversions from a 30 day visa exempt or a tourist visa to a 90 day Non-O.

Once you go to the local Amphur and actually get married you then need to figure out

if you just want a 90 day single entry Non-O from Vientiane and then which you apply for a yearly extension of stay based on marriage from the immigration office

OR

if you want to get a year-long, multi-entry Non-O from Savannakhet, and then every 90 days just stamp out and back into the country to get another 90 day stamp? You do that for the entire year.

Again, he is correct by telling you this as these are the rules at the moment, You ask it this will be allowed next year, I just state we can tell you if the rules are the same next year or what a decision of the Immigration Officer will be next year. We can give advice about the current rules and how to apply but we are not fortune tellers.

you WILL only need to apply for a yearly extension of stay (y) You should stop in the immigration office and get the checklist of documents, photos and stuff you will need to get your extension. It is NOT what you needed at the thai consulate in another country to get the Non-O visa.

You'll apply and get a 30 day under consideration stamp, and then you go back on that date and get the yearly extension inked into your passport.

Let's get some stuff sorted out first.

You can NEVER renew a visa (from a thai consulate) OR a yearly extension of stay, :O they expire and you get a brand new one every year.

You ONLY need to have ONE Non-O visa and after that you apply for yearly extensions at the immigration office, year after year, you do NOT need to go get a new Non-O..

No, looks to me like you have the Multiple Non Immigrant O visa valid till 20th Feb 2019, You can do a border run just before or on that date to get a new 90 days of stay, which will give you a stay till aournd 20 May, or apply between 30 days before and your Admitted to stay date for the 1 year Extension of Stay based on married with a Thai National.

You can apply at your local Immigration Office for a 1 year Extension of Stay based on married to a Thai National. It will be first 30 days under consideration and if you come back on that last day you get the remaining 11 months in your passport. Only thing you have to do than is reporting if you're 90 days inside Thailand and if you like to travel you need a re-entry permit to keep this 1 year of stay alive.

One year on and looking to renew for another year after my first year will expire 20th February 2019 strange how my final 90day stamp takes me through until March?! Glad I noticed and queried my options.

Which appear that I don't need to apply for another non O because it will not have expired when I next go to my local immagration office at the end of January.

They are suggesting I will only need to apply for an extension of stay? This sounds odd. Can you shed any more light?

they will not ask for any bank statement when you present the embassy notary letter. I've used it for 8 years and never shown anything but the embassy notary (although I do have proof with me in case they ask).

All you need is the notarized letter from the consulate stating you get over 40K baht a month in income. It doesn't need to be translated into thai or certified as accurate by the MFA

Roger that! It is a UK bank statement then attached to embassy auth letter translated and then MOFA stamped and sent back in under 4 days. ( As I mentioned earlier I did at the same time as the affirmation etc) read on the website that they only now do by post, however, I thought shall I take a chance and do at the same time and they said yes!) good tip for your readers. , proof of income certificates from your consulate are good for 6 months from the date of issue. In the Files section on the left of this group is the Immigration office's rule change dated from 2013.

Bank letters are good for 7 days but consulate notary letters are good for 6 months.

Also if you are applying for a yearly extension in Bangkok or Chiang Mai you can do so when you have 45 days or less left on your current stamp, every where else is 30 days or less.

Whilst getting marriage affirmation and passport authentication at Uk embassy, I also organised a proof of income.(since I was going there anyway) I phone first to check this would be ok. Very helpful on the phone. My question is since I handed the proof of income in during this process for non-O visa Do I really need to provide a newer one less than 90 later?

You do NOT need anything translated or certified by the MFA when getting a visa at a thai consulate in another country

you are confusing the requirements of getting a Non-O inside the country and getting a 90 day single entry Non-O at a thai consulate outside the country :/

All you need in Vientiane or Savannakhet are copies of

the data page of your passport

the two marriage certificates (Kor Ror 2 & 3)

your thai wife's i/d

your thai wife's house book listing

you also need the original Kor Ror 3 (the one with the rose border around it), they wanna see it because it has an embossed seal

Your wife signs everything with her name on it and you sign everything with your name on it.

Those things and 2000baht are all you need to pull a 90 day single entry Non-O in Vientiane.

. You fill out the form from your consulate stating you get xxx money a month and they notarize it.

As long as it's over 40K baht for marriage or 65 K baht for retirement it's fine. They don't ask for proof that the amount on the form is backed up by anything when you get a yearly extension. BUT they do ask for it when you apply for a Non-O in country using the notary letter. Then you must show bank statements, etc.
