I am an Australian passport holder and permanent resident in Sydney. Am over 55 and investigating the Non Immigrant O-X (5 year) Retirement Visa.
Have seen conflicting 'Proof of funds' criteria, depending what Thai Consulate/HC i check. Some say THB 3million in Thai bank, located in Thailand. Others mention AUD 150k in Australian bank in Sydney, for example.
So I emailed the Thai Consulate in Sydney and asked them if i could qualify for the O-X based on holding AUD 150k in an Aussie bank. They said yes. Can.
Am interested if anyone else has successfully applied for an O-X visa using funds from your home country/bank?

TLDR : Answer Summary
An Australian passport holder and permanent resident over 55 years is exploring the Non-Immigrant O-X (5 year) Retirement Visa, facing conflicting proof of funds requirements. Some Thai consulates require THB 3 million in a Thai bank, while others accept AUD 150k in an Australian bank. After inquiring, the Thai Consulate in Sydney confirmed that holding AUD 150k qualifies for the O-X visa application. Other users corroborate that the Sydney consulate has more lenient financial requirements for the O-X visa compared to others, and share experiences about applying from Sydney.

Just about to put my application in I spoke with Sydney consulate about the same thing. Do the application through Sydney the requirement of finance is way lower than the requirement if you go through Canberra embassy. And yes information form these two sources is very different. My biggest problem is getting the certificate of insurance. so do that early with whoever you choose to. I fly on 29 March and still haven't been able to apply. Started process mid January. Everything else quite easy. Good luck R
Yes I got mine may last year and I just used letter of employment and 3 months payslips. I did not supply any bank account details Thailand or Australia
The ONLY thai consulate that I know of which will let you get an OX visa with funds in your country is the thai consulate in Sydney.
You're fine, go ahead follow the directions, apply online, then wait until they give you the approval, send in your documents, passport and you'll get it mailed back to you with the 10 year OX visa in it
